Frequently Asked Questions

Do your cast iron skillets come pre-seasoned?

Skillets labeled “pre-seasoned” come with a layer of seasoning already applied. Wash and dry your skillet before its first use, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Check each product description for its finish and care requirements.

How do I clean seasoned cast iron?

Wash by hand with warm water, a small amount of mild dish soap, and a brush or non-scratch sponge. Dry thoroughly right away, then apply a very thin layer of cooking oil. Wipe away excess oil before storing.

Avoid soaking seasoned cast iron or putting it in the dishwasher.

How do I prevent rust?

Keep your seasoned cast iron clean and completely dry. Apply a light coating of cooking oil after washing and store it in a dry place. Avoid leaving water or food in the skillet for extended periods.

What if my seasoned cast iron develops rust?

Surface rust can often be removed by scrubbing the affected area, washing, and drying thoroughly. Re-season the cookware according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

These steps apply to uncoated cast iron. Do not use aggressive rust-removal methods on enamel.

Does enameled cast iron need different care?

Yes. The enamel coating does not need seasoning. Let the cookware cool before washing with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge, then dry thoroughly.

Avoid steel wool, abrasive cleaners, and sudden temperature changes. Follow the product’s instructions for any exposed iron edges.
